LumaCare Mental Helse was established in 2023 by psychiatrist Dr. Selin Maren Aagaard. Drawing on over 20 years of clinical experience within mental health services, the clinic offers comprehensive, private diagnostic assessments and psychiatric treatment for a wide range of mental health challenges.
Psychiatrist Selin Maren Aagaard is a dual specialist in both adult psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry.
She offers tailored assessment and treatment for:
• Children from the age of 6 and adolescents
• Adults and older adults
She accepts clients for individual therapy, family therapy and/or group therapy, as well as counselling and guidance. As a doctor and psychiatrist, Aagaard also assesses the initiation, adjustment or discontinuation of medication treatment when needed.

Following the completion of her medical degree, she relocated to Oslo in 2001 and obtained her full licensure as a Norwegian medical doctor in 2005. Upon completing her medical residency, she commenced her career in psychiatry in 2006. Dr. Aagaard has since completed an extensive dual specialization, qualifying as a specialist in both Adult Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Therapeutic background:
In addition to her psychiatric credentials, Dr. Aagaard is an accomplished psychotherapist. She completed her advanced training in Family Therapy in 2015 under the auspices of the Regional Centre for Child and Adolescent Mental Health (RBUP) and the Institute of Family Therapy in London. In the autumn of 2023, she further expanded her clinical repertoire by completing a specialization in Group Therapy through the Institute of Group Analysis (IGA).
After many years in the public healthcare system, she chose in 2023 to establish her own private practice under the name LumaCare Mental Helse.
The Philosophy Behind LumaCare:
The name LumaCare has Latin roots: "Mare" means sea, and "Sanitas" represents health. The core philosophy is inspired by the perspective that life can be envisioned as a journey at sea. Each of us navigates our own vessel, steering through open waters, exploring new horizons, anchoring in different harbors, and gathering invaluable experiences along the way. To ensure the journey remains safe and fulfilling, it is vital to maintain control of the helm and hold a steady course. However, we occasionally encounter turbulent storms or profound challenges that become too overwhelming to face alone. It is during these critical moments that one may require a pilot to help find the way forward and restore the proper heading. There is no shame in seeking support.
